What it requires
New Azure customers only. The FAQ explains why a credit or debit card and phone number are needed, and a temporary $1 authorization may be placed on your card during signup verification, then reversed.
The catch
The $200 credit must be used within 30 days, and the free account, free services and credit do not include sovereign cloud products in US Government, Azure China, and Azure Germany regions.

The Azure free account is available only to new Azure customers and comes with a $200 credit to use on Azure services within 30 days. It also includes free monthly amounts of 20+ popular services for 12 months and 65+ always-free services. To continue beyond 30 days or after the credit is used up, you move to pay-as-you-go pricing.
